Chinese lessor delivers to Latin American LCC

Hong Kong SAR-headquartered China Aircraft Leasing (CALC) has delivered an Airbus A320neo to Chile’s Jetsmart, the low-cost carrier that recently signed an agreement to sell a stake to American Airlines.

This is the third A320neo CALC has delivered to Jetsmart and the first since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

CALC also leases two 2017-vintage A320 aircraft to the Chilean carrier, on 10-year terms.

Following last Friday’s A320neo delivery, Jetsmart now operates nine A320neos on lease from both CALC and SMBC Aviation Capital, Airfinance Journal's Fleet Tracker shows.

Jetsmart has outstanding A320neo-family orders exceeding 70 additional aircraft.

In late July, American Airlines signed a letter of intent to buy a minority stake in Jetsmart and explore further opportunities with Indigo Partners.

Jetsmart, which operates out of Chile and Argentina, is one of several airlines owned by Indigo; it offers short-haul domestic and international service to 33 destinations throughout South America.

Under the proposed transaction, American and Indigo Partners would jointly commit to providing additional capital to fund potential future opportunities in the region.

CALC also leases Airbus narrowbodies to other Latin American low-cost carriers Viva Air, from Colombia, and Sky Airline, from Chile.
