Lessors make 58% of Airbus orders

Operating lessors represented a large portion of Airbus commercial aircraft orders in 2020.

Airbus recorded a total of 383 new orders last year, of which 268 were net orders.

Lessors orders totalled 222 units, or 58% of the Airbus new orders.

Air Lease was the only leasing company committing for the A220 family with a 50-aircraft order for the A220-300 model. The Los Angeles based lessor also placed the only widebody order from a leasing company in 2020: an A350-900.

The A321neo model topped the rankings as the most popular variant ordered. It recorded a total of 118 aircraft orders or 53% of the lessors’ total.

Air Lease ordered 52 aircraft of the type, followed by CALC (40), Aercap (25) and Avolon (1).

Aercap and BOC Aviation placed orders for 25 A320neos and 20 A320neos, respectively while Avolon orders eight A320s.
