Submissions open for Airfinance China Awards 2018
Valued for their independence and transparency, our awards represent the market-leading deals rated on innovation, timing, size, complexity, ability to overcome obstacles and setting new industry benchmarks.
We have made several changes to the awards this year to streamline the process. For the first time, we are using an online system for submissions and judging.

We have also expanded the external judging panel to six leading executives in the air finance sector (see below), better reflecting the diversity of the industry:
- Harvey Lau, former partner at Baker McKenzie,
- Peter Huijbers, director at PH Aviation Asia Ltd
- Sandra Chen, managing director at Fontainburg Aviation Capital,
- Norm Liu, senior advisor at ICBC Leasing, former chief executive officer of GECAS,
- Simon Collins, partner White & Case, and
- Gao Feng, senior partner Grandall Law Firm.
The judges will select the winners of the following categories:
Best domestic Chinese financing – Based on submissions, this award is for a transaction completed only with mainland Chinese parties.
Best cross-border airline or lessor financing by a Chinese financier – Based on submissions, this award is for deals involving a Chinese financier financing a non-Chinese airline.
Best new Chinese leasing entrant – In recent years, many new Chinese leasing companies have entered the market. Our judges will select the one that has made the best overall progress and impact on the market in 2018.
Chinese lessor of the year – Our judging panel will choose the Chinese leasing company that made the biggest impact on the market in 2018.
Finance lease award – This award goes to the best finance lease transaction in the Chinese market.
Innovative Deal of the Year – This award goes to the most innovative transaction in the Chinese market.
Operating lease award (including sale and leaseback) – Based on submissions, this award goes to the most innovative operating lease transaction in the Chinese market.
Overall Deal of the Year - Our judging panel will choose transaction that made the biggest impact on the market in 2018.
The Airfinance Journal team will determine the winners of the following categories:
Asia Finance Editor’s Deal of the Year – This will be selected from the nominations for the above categories. The Asia Finance Editor’s Deal will be determined by Dominic Lalk.
Aviation Woman of the Year in China – This award recognises a female in the Chinese market who made the biggest impact on the aviation finance market in 2018.
Young person in Chinese aviation finance (35 years old or below on 31 December 2018) – This award recognises a person under 35 year old who has made the biggest impact on the Chinese aviation finance market in 2018.
Top-rated Chinese airline (based on The Airline Analyst data) – Using our powerful airline financials product, The Airline Analyst, we will award the top-rated airline in China.
The judges will not vote in categories in which their current or former employers are nominated.
To qualify for entry, deals must have been closed and funded between 1 January and 31 December 2018.
The deadline for nominations is 5 April 2019.
The awards will be presented at the Airfinance Journal China Awards 2018 dinner to be held at the St Regis Shanghai Jingan, on Thursday 13 June, 2019.
