Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines talks to Dickon Harris, about the arrival of the Boeing 787 and the carrier’s growth plans.

Airfinance Journal: You are an expanding airline and, as I understand it, you will be one of the first to operate Boeing’s Dreamliner in Africa.
Tewolde Gebremariam: We are the fastest-growing airline in Africa, and one of the fastest in the world. In our current fiscal year we expect remarkable growth with revenue set to grow by over 35% and capacity, when measured in terms of ASK [available seat kilometres], by over 25%.
 
It is also significant that we managed to register this fast growth while remaining profitable in an extremely challenging context of weak travel demand and surging fuel costs, which at one point hovered above $125 per barrel early this year.

We will be the first airline in Africa and among the first in the world to receive the 787 Dreamliner. By July 2013 we expect five Dreamliners to join our fast-expanding fleet, with the first...
