AA reports $2bn loss for 2011

In the fourth quarter of 2011 alone the US carrier had a net loss of $1.1 billion.

American Airlines (AA), a subsidiary of bankrupted AMR Holdings, has reported a $2 billion consolidated net loss for fiscal year 2011. This compares to a net loss of $471 million for the same period last year.
In the 2011 fourth quarter alone, AA reported a consolidated net loss of $1.1 billion, compared to $97 million in Q4 2010.
Consolidated revenues for Q4 2011 were about $6 billion, an increase of 7.4% year-over-year.
