Update: Sumitomo to buy RBS Aviation Capital for $7.3bn

A Japanese consortium consisting of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group companies and Sumitomo Corporation has won the bid to acquire Royal Bank of Scotland's leasing unit.

RBS Aviation Capital will be sold to Japan's Sumitomo for $7.3 billion. A consortium consisting of SMBC, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Leasing and Sumitomo Corporation will jointly acquire the lessor. The deal is the largest ever sale of an aircraft leasing company. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2012.
