Oneworld granted antitrust immunity

The US Department of Transportation (Dot) has given American Airlines and four international airlines permission to form a global alliance.

The US Department of Transportation will grant antitrust immunity to a global alliance between American Airlines and four international airlines in exchange for slots at London’s Heathrow Airport.

 

The US Dot tentatively approved the trans-Atlantic antitrust immunity (ATI) request on Saturday, February 14. The ATI request – submitted in August 2008 – includes Oneworld alliance members American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia Airlines, Finnair and Royal Jordanian Airlines.

 

The carriers say the alliance will allow them to share revenue, reduce costs, offer customers lower rates, offer more opportunities to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles...
