The programme, which was estimated to cost $450 million, was launched in 1995 as an answer to Boeing’s 767,and the aircraft entered into service in 1998.ILFC,which was the first customer, leased the first two aircraft to low-cost carrier Canada 3000 Airlines.
The A330-200 is a medium- to long-range aircraft, with a shorter fuselage (193 feet versus 208 feet) but longer range (6,650 nautical miles versus 5,600) compared with its sibling, the A330-300.It can be powered either by the CF6-80E,PW4000 or Trent 700-series engines.
