Premium travel and business jet activity plummet

Figures released by Iata show a continuing slump in premium commercial travel, with first and business class tickets sales down sharply. At the same time Aviation Research Group/US reports business aircraft activity in February down by over a quarter year on year.

Business and premium travel continues to suffer as global economic conditions worsen, recent figures confirm. Iata’s Premium Traffic Monitor for January shows first and business class ticket numbers worldwide down by over 16% on the previous month, and suggests that passengers are increasingly trading down to economy seats.
Separately Aviation Reasearch Group/US, an analyst which tracks aircraft arrival and departure information, records American business aircraft activity down in February by over 26% year on year. The firm notes that the figures were up about 28% on January, but that this still represents a decline of 18.5% over the last 12 months.
