Headhunting through the downturn

With jobs vanishing throughout airfinance, now may not seem the best time to be an executive search consultant. But high workforce turnover feeds an industry which is at least as important during the bad times as the good.

“There are a few people wanting to look at the moment, and a few people having to look, but what’s out there is a different story,” says Keith Garry, managing director at executive search consultants Peak Performance. “There are vacancies, although more limited compared to last year and many of the major employers are in holding patterns.”

Garry set up Peak Performance in October 2008 to concentrate solely on the aviation industry. While last year was fantastic for the start-up, he says that business now is a little slower. “It’s a little more difficult on all fronts,” he says, “but it’s not all doom and gloom.”
