Transaero signs Tu-214 deal

Transaero has signed an agreement to lease Russian aircraft as part of its agreement to avoid import taxes on Western aircraft.
The Russian airline has agreed to lease 10 Tupolev Tu-214 twinjets, which will be assembled at the KAPO factory in Kazan.
Finance Leasing Company has ordered the aircraft from KAPO and will lease the Tu-214s to Transaero in a $600 million, 15-year deal.
Transaero was forced to sign the deal as part of an arrangement with the Russian government. The government allowed Transaero to lease Western aircraft without paying customs duties, as long as the airline agreed to acquire Tupolev aircraft.
