Macquarie finally acquired an aircraft operating lessor when it bought GATX Air for $1.46 billion.
The Australian bank was out bid in auctions for debis Airfinance (now AerCap) and Awas, so chose to acquire GATX's aircraft leasing business in a private sale.
Och-Ziff Capital Management Group is also a major investor in the Macquarie-led consortium. The New York investment company had bid with Macquarie for Awas.
