We have all heard the saying "planes, trains and automobiles". Now it is time to find out why ships are becoming an important part of this equation.
More shipping companies are expanding their empires to include aviation. While these two disciplines may seem vastly different, one can leverage from the other.
Ofer (Ships Holding), which has enjoyed a successful 50 years on water, is taking to the skies. The Tel Aviv-based group launched Ofer Aviation in June 2005 and the lessor has already purchased nine narrowbody aircraft, including a mixture of A320 family and 737-800s, which are on lease to well-known US and European airlines and a prominent private carrier in India.
As part of Israel's largest privately owned shipping enterprise, Ofer Aviation is becoming a well-known name in its own right.
