If the Australian national anthem could be re-written, it would no doubt include the nation's beloved carrier, which has remained Australian public property after one of the most controversial takeover bids in the country's history.
Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services (Qantas) was the vision of two young war pilots in 1920. Some 87 years later, Australia's Flying Kangaroo was the subject of a war between Airline Partners Australia (APA), the airline's shareholders and unions. How could APA's friendly takeover proposal that was heavily backed by Qantas board members and the Australian government fail?
