Regulator Calls for the BAA to be Split Up

The Competition Commission is calling for the British Airports Authority (BAA) to be broken up in an effort to create more competition between airports. This follows a number of mishaps for the airport owner, culminating in the chaotic opening of Terminal 5. The BAA owns seven airports in the UK – Heathrow, Gatwick, Southampton and Stansted in England and Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland. In August, the commission will recommend some of these airports to be sold.
